A funding channel for locally-led healthcare
Across Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, some of the most capable healthcare organizations are the ones least able to reach institutional funding. The obstacle is rarely the quality of their work. It is the governance documentation, financial controls and reporting standards that large funders require, and that a small local organization cannot produce on its own.
Alliance for Medical Access exists to remove that obstacle. AMA is a U.S. nonprofit that operates as a fiscal sponsor and consortium. It does not run field operations of its own. It assesses local organizations already doing the work, helps them structure projects to institutional standards, channels funding to them, and accounts for how every disbursement is used.
How AMA works
AMA's role begins where a funder's requirements and a local organization's capacity fail to meet. Each of the four functions below exists to close that distance.
Geographic focus
AMA distinguishes between the countries where it has established partner relationships and the regions it has identified for future consortium development. This distinction matters: it reflects where structured partnerships already exist, and where AMA intends to extend its model as capacity and funding allow.

Access institutional funding without your own nonprofit
A fiscal sponsor lets an organization or a project access institutional grants and tax-considerations through an established nonprofit, without first building its own. For local healthcare teams, this can be the difference between a fundable project and none at all. AMA extends its legal and administrative structure to the local partners it works with, and remains accountable for the funds throughout.
